Antique Duck Decoys

 Decoys are a piece of Americana art that started out as a utilitarian piece to lure ducks and make a living by feeding their family and selling ducks to restaurants back in the late 1800's.
Spreads of decoys numbering two to three hundred were put out before daylight and were all hand made. When the plastic decoys came out, everyone thought the wooden decoys were of no more use so thousands were burned around the camp fires to keep warm at night.
Today wooden decoys are prized depending on the region and who made them.
Since I'm in the south, most of the decoys I run across are Illinois river species and Mason's.
No more wooden antique decoys are available but new collectors continue to search for that important decoy for their collection. These decoys presented are fresh to the market. Enjoy
